Geropsychology Understands Aging Is Complex

The Emotional and Psychological Impact of Aging

Challenges Commonly Addressed in Geropsychology:

  • Loss of Independence: Facing mobility changes, chronic illness, or needing help with daily activities can impact your sense of identity and control.
  • Health-Related Anxiety and Depression: Managing chronic health conditions, cognitive decline, or adjusting to medical diagnoses can create emotional distress.
  • Grief and Loss: Coping with the death of a spouse, siblings, or lifelong friends, as well as anticipatory grief or ambiguous loss from dementia or caregiving.
  • Caregiver Stress: Supporting a loved one through illness or dementia can be exhausting, emotionally and physically draining.
  • Life Transitions: Navigating retirement, downsizing, changing family roles, or facing new phases of life can feel overwhelming.
  • Isolation and Loneliness: Social circles may shrink, leading to feelings of disconnection or invisibility.

Geropsychology offers compassionate, specialized support to help you cope with these changes and maintain emotional well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions About Geropsychology

Do you have a question about my services? Feel free to give me a call and also take a look at some of my frequently asked questions.

  • What is geropsychology?

Geropsychology is a specialized field focused on the mental health and emotional well-being of older adults as they navigate aging, health challenges, grief, and life transitions.

  • Is therapy helpful even if I’ve never done this before?

Absolutely. It’s never too late to start therapy. Many older adults find relief and support in processing emotions that have gone unspoken for years.

  • Can therapy help with health-related anxiety and chronic illness?

Yes. Therapy provides tools and strategies to help you cope with medical diagnoses, manage anxiety or depression, and improve your quality of life.

  • Do you support caregivers?

Yes. Caregiving can be emotionally exhausting. Therapy offers a space to process feelings, reduce burnout, and build coping strategies.

  • How much does therapy cost?

Please see the Contact & Fees section for details. Superbills are available for potential insurance reimbursement.

  • Do you accept Medicare or insurance?

I do not accept Medicare and have formally opted out as a provider. This means Medicare will not reimburse for my services, even for out-of-network care. However, some supplemental insurance plans may offer limited coverage. I also do not bill insurance directly. Upon request, I can provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement or use with HSA/FSA benefits. I recommend checking with your insurance provider regarding out-of-network coverage.
