Managing Grief and loss

Helping You Process Loss, Navigate Intense Emotions, and Rebuild a Meaningful Life

Maybe you wake up each day feeling a crushing sadness, wondering how to keep going. Simple tasks feel exhausting, and you’re drained from holding it together in front of others. Even when surrounded by people who care, grief can feel isolating, no one truly understands what you’re going through.

Some days, grief is a constant ache. Other days, it sneaks up on you, a song, a scent, a memory. You might feel guilt for moments of joy, as if healing means forgetting. Maybe you're stuck in “What if?” or avoiding reminders because facing them feels unbearable. Grief doesn’t follow a set path or timeline, and it doesn’t mean letting go. It means learning to carry your loss in a way that doesn’t carry you away, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Grief Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

Understanding What Grief Is

Different Types of Grief

Grief comes in many forms. Recognizing the type of grief you’re experiencing can help you better understand your emotions and healing process.

Complicated Grief (Prolonged Grief Disorder)

The pain remains as raw as the day of the loss, making it hard to function or move forward.

Anticipatory Grief

Grieving before a loss occurs, common for caregivers of terminally ill loved ones.

Traumatic Grief

Loss that is sudden, unexpected, or violent, often leaving you in shock or struggling with overwhelming emotions.

Ambiguous Grief

Mourning someone who is still alive but fundamentally changed due to dementia, estrangement, or disappearance.

Disenfranchised Grief

Grief that isn’t widely recognized or validated, such as experiencing miscarriage, mourning an ex-partner, or losing a pet.

Collective Grief

A shared grief felt after large-scale tragedies like natural disasters, pandemics, or national events.

Delayed Grief

When emotions are suppressed after a loss, only to resurface months or years later.

No matter what type of grief you’re experiencing, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Carrying Grief Alone Doesn’t Make It Lighter

Frequently Asked Questions About Grief Therapy

Do you have a question about my services? Feel free to give me a call and also take a look at some of my frequently asked questions.

  • How do I know if I need grief therapy?

Grief therapy can be helpful if your loss feels overwhelming, if daily life is difficult to manage, or if you feel stuck in sadness, guilt, or isolation. There’s no “right” time to start, whether your loss was recent or years ago, you deserve support.

  • Does grief therapy mean I have to ‘move on’?

No. Grief therapy is not about forgetting or "getting over" your loss. Instead, it helps you process emotions, find ways to honor your loved one, and move forward while carrying your grief in a way that feels manageable.

  • What if I’m afraid that healing means forgetting?

It’s common to worry that feeling better means losing your connection to your loved one. Therapy helps you integrate your loss into your life in a meaningful way, allowing you to heal while maintaining your bond.

  • How long does grief therapy take?

Grief is unique to each person, and therapy is tailored to your needs. Some people find relief in a few months, while others prefer ongoing support. There’s no set timeline, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you

  • My loss happened a long time ago, can grief therapy still help?

Yes. Unprocessed grief can resurface years later, often triggered by life changes, anniversaries, or unexpected emotions. Therapy can help you work through unresolved feelings and find peace, no matter how much time has passed.

  • How Much Does Therapy Cost?

I am a private pay, out-of-network provider. Please refer to the Contact & Fees section for detailed session pricing. Payment is due at the time of service. While I do not bill insurance directly, I am happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider or use with HSA/FSA benefits for potential reimbursement. I encourage you to check with your insurance company regarding out-of-network mental health coverage.

Choosing private pay allows you to invest in personalized, high-quality care without the limitations of insurance, ensuring your treatment is fully tailored to your unique needs.
